The best coastal towns of Tuscany occupy the region's long coastline which faces out on to the Ligurian Sea to the north and the Tyrrhenian Sea to the south.
One of the most popular areas of the coastline is called Versilia which includes the town of Viareggio. Famous for its annual carnival, the popular resort is also distinctive for its Liberty-style architecture and grand hotels. The Versilia coastline also includes Forte Dei Marmi, a near neighbour of Viareggio, as well as a collection of smaller beach resorts. The likes of Castiglione della Pescaia and Porto Santo Stefano are situated further south. |
