Palazzina dei Mulini

The Palazzina dei Mulini, officially part of the National Museum of Napoleonic Residences, is one of the most popular visitor destinations on the island of Elba in the Tuscan Archipelago.
Although the island's main attraction revolves around its eighty or so beaches, it owes much of its fame to the nine month stint of exile that Napoleon Bonaparte spent here between 1814 and 1815. |

The name Palazzina dei Mulini translates as the "Little Palace of the Mills", which relates to the windmills that used to occupy the site while the house itself is certainly what you would describe as "little" in terms of palaces.
Around the two floors of the building you can explore some of the rooms where Napoleon lived and went about his daily business, including a fascinating library that he had brought to the island with him and subsequently donated after his dramatic escape.
The Palazzina is located at the top of the hill in Portoferraio, the capital town of Elba. It's best reached on foot from the main port area and although the hill is steep in places, it shouldn't take any more than 5 to 10 minutes walk.
