Siena Baptistery
Latest page update: 18 September 2024
The Siena Baptistery or Battistero di San Giovanni Battista is an Italian Gothic structure in the centre of Siena in Tuscany.
It forms part of the Siena Cathedral complex with its own facade standing at the opposite end to that of the Cathedral itself. Whereas the facade remains slightly unfinished, the interior is anything but, with some outstanding works of art on display. Aside from the large baptismal font that dominates at ground level, the walls are decorated with work by such luminaries as Donatello, Ghiberti, Jacopo della Quercia and frescoes by Vecchietta. |
