Piazza della Signoria

The Piazza della Signoria in Florence is home to the Palazzo Vecchio, formerly known as the Palazzo della Signoria.
Unlike the nearby Piazza del Duomo, the Piazza della Signoria offers more in the way of open space with a large number of restaurants making it a popular spot in the evenings. It's one of the busiest places in Florence with the Uffizi Gallery close by. |

A number of interesting statues are on display in the Piazza: just in front of the Palazzo Vecchio is a copy of Michelangelo's Statue of David with the original housed within the Galleria dell'Accademia, a kilometre to the north. A few steps to the left of the "Fake David" is a monumental 16th century fountain: the Fontana del Nettuno, while another 16th century statue, the Equestrian Statue of Cosimo I de Medici stands just a few extra paces away.
Along the southern edge of the Piazza is the beautiful Loggia dei Lanzi with its collection of statues, while many more artworks can be enjoyed in the Uffizi Gallery, the entrance of which is along the narrow walkway between the Loggia and the Palazzo Vecchio. The best view of the square can be enjoyed from the Palazzo Vecchio Tower which looms above the square and reaches a height of 94 metres.
